Khenpo Lophel Rinpoche
From among Tibet’s Three Provinces, in Do Khams, from among the Six Mountain Ranges, in the Silver Moon Zalmo Range, and from among the Eighteen Great Valleys, in the Valley of the Golden Lynx, Glorious Riwoche, Khenpo Lophel Rinpoche planted his feet in the (western year) 1970, and there he grew up.
He entered the Riwoche Vihara Monastery in 1976 and received instruction on all the aspects of the various rituals, making tormas with butter ornaments, the drum rhythms, music, and chanting, along with ritual dance, and became thoroughly trained. He remained at that Vihara for thirteen years, studying all the academic subjects and absorbing the great philosophical texts. While he stayed there, he studied the complete teachings of Lord Sangye Won, the Lord of Refuge Jedrung Jampa Jungnay, and all the other collected teachings of the Taklung Kagyu, including their minor works that were available. He studied the collected teachings of Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal, the Nyingma Kama, the collected teachings of Ratna Lingpa, the collected teachings of the learned and accomplished Karma Chakme, the collected teachings of Jigme Lingpa, and so on, and all the empowerments, authorizations, and instructions were completely received.
In 1997, he emigrated to India, as many others have done, and sought an audience with the Sovereign, the Supreme Great Lord of Refuge (HH the Dalai Lama). Following the advice he received, he took up the full ordination of a Bhikshu and then went to the Great Seat of the Gelugpa at Sera Tegchen Ling, where he studied the three aspects of valid cognition, including logic, reasoning, and collected topics.
After that, he went to the great non-sectarian university of glorious Dzongsar, the Joyful Garden of Dharma, where he studied the Thirteen Great Philosophical Texts and the Sakya collection of the Eighteen Texts of Great Renown, and thoroughly heard and contemplated them. While he was staying there, he came before the Lord of Refuge, the Precious Emeritus Sakya Throne Holder, and received the Path and Result for Disciples, as well as the Drupgyal Tsewang, the Vajrakilaya Ka Go and others many times. From 2004 to 2006, at the request of both Khen Rinpoche Ngawang Kunga Wangchuk and Khenpo Jamyang Losal, the current school principal of the Dzongsar Academy, he went to Nepal and took up the role of teacher.
At Taklung Kagyu Tashi Dargye Ling in Nepal, he taught students for three years, and then he obtained the degree of Khenpo and was invited to come to Canada’s Riwoche Temple in Toronto, where he stayed for more than two years working for the benefit of the temple. During that time, he obtained the authorization and instructions on Terchen Chogyur Lingpa’s tradition of the Great Completion Three Words that Strike the Essential Points, and from the Glorious 42nd Sakya Tridzin, he obtained all the empowerments and instructions for the Khon Tradition’s Vajrakilaya, the Ta Chak Kyung trilogy, and others, with nothing missing. From the Embodiment of the Gedenpa’s Three Guardians of Ganden North Point College, he received the great empowerment of the Precious Guhyasamaja together with the authorization and instructions on the Guru Puja.
In 2009, he came to Vancouver and founded a new Taklung Kagyu dharma centre called Mangalashri, which now has another branch centre in Toronto, Canada. Then in 2022, in the 12th month on the 25th day, this Khenpo from the overseas centre of the Taklung Kagyu accomplished all the criteria and received his passport. During 2023 and 2024, in front of the Lord of Refuge Sangye Nyenpa Rinpoche, he completely obtained the empowerments, authorizations and instructions of the Treasury of Precious Revealed Teachings and the Translated Words of the Buddha.
While he was staying in Nepal, the Taklungpas, headed by the Lords of Refuge, the Tulkus, Khenpos, and technical experts in logistics and cooking, consulted and discussed together to plan an event that would help stabilize the world situation generally, and would particularly ensure that the Dharma does not become impaired, but grows and flourishes. With the intention to promote and spread the Dharma so that all beings experience happiness, through gathering the Accumulations by making offerings, motivated by the very greatest universal benefit, they decided to organize a vast Aspiration Prayer or Monlam.
For this reason, we are requesting commitments to offer a total of $100,000, taking care to be consistent with all new government regulations.
At that time, if the Lords of Refuge or other leaders think they may not be able to attend, please let us know your names so that we don’t continually contact you.
The work and organization will be similar to that for the Canadian Ngagyur Nyingma Great Aspiration that started in 2023.
Written in the western year 2025 in the 8th month on the 16th day.
The Lord of Refuge, the Supreme Great Treasure Revealer Namkha Drimay Rabjam Rinpoche, has at that time been requested to give, from his own Mind Tresure, powerful blessings in the form of the empowerment of the War God King Gesar, the Treasury of Everything Desired, and the Life Empowerment called Glorious Gift of Deathlessness.
Finally, in many different countries and many different regions in the east, west, and so on, there are many different kinds of people, white, black, yellow and so on, who love and have confidence in the Insider’s Dharma, and are ready to help.
Now, while we are in Canada, under the auspices of the Dharma traditions of the Land of Snows, I have presented this brief story to fulfill the hopes of Tibetans and Himalayan people who are working to preserve the Buddhadharma.
